Afghans for Progressive Thinking (APT) had the honor of attending the 2nd EU Conference on Youth, Peace and Security (YPS), held from 10 to 14 November in Brussels. The conference brought together over 120 young peacebuilders, activists, and policymakers from across the globe, marking a vital step in advancing the YPS agenda and strengthening youth-led efforts for peace.
Our team actively participated in the discussions, proudly contributing Afghan youth perspectives to conversations on inclusive peacebuilding, youth participation, and conflict prevention. We engaged in workshops, policy sessions, and collaborative exchanges that highlighted the importance of youth-led initiatives in shaping more peaceful and just societies. APT joined regional dialogues, particularly with youth teams from Asia, to discuss upcoming plans and shared efforts to strengthen the YPS agenda across the region. These conversations focused on raising awareness of Resolution 2250 and other key frameworks, and on building the capacity of youth to become future peacebuilders. We emphasized the need to equip young people with practical tools, especially conflict analysis skills, to help them better understand and respond to the challenges facing their communities.
As an organization working for over a decade in Afghanistan, we highlighted the urgency of investing in youth leadership and capacity building. Afghan youth continue to face complex challenges, yet they remain resilient and committed to peace. By strengthening their skills and amplifying their voices, we can make sure that they are not only included in peace processes but are leading them.
We are grateful to the organizers and partners, including the European Union External Action and the Global Coalition for YPS, Search for Common Grounds, for creating this space for meaningful youth engagement. APT remains committed to advancing the YPS agenda, fostering regional collaboration, and ensuring Afghan youth are part of shaping the peaceful future they deserve.
