Growing up in the conservative society of Kandahar, I thought the biggest challenge I’d face was continuing my education where women struggled to attend school or university. Then, the Taliban came to power and took away our opportunity to study. I’ve always lived with depression, but it hit me hardest when the Taliban closed down our universities. I am not thankful for those difficult years before the Taliban; I wish they were still here because those were the happiest days of my life.
