Creative Writing Program

Program Overview

APT’s Creative Writing Program is designed for young women in Afghanistan to empower them to amplify their voices through storytelling and reclaiming narratives that have long been suppressed. Through writing, reflection, and advocacy, this program becomes a platform for change where words become tools for justice, healing, and hope.

Program Objective:

  • Equip young Afghan women with creative writing skills
  • Foster self-expression and storytelling as a form of advocacy
  • Build a network of empowered female voices across Afghanistan
  • Raise awareness of women’s lived experiences and challenges
  • Inspire action through published works and public engagement

Program Activities:

  • Writing Workshops led by national and international instructors
  • Story Development Sessions focusing on personal and community narratives
  • Policy Brief Drafting on youth and women’s issues in Afghanistan
  • Publication & Sharing of selected works

Areas of Focus:

  • Narrative Writing: Explore personal storytelling through journaling, life writing, and essays that reflect lived experiences.
  • Fiction & Non-Fiction: Craft compelling stories—real or imagined—using structure, character, and theme to bring ideas to life.
  • Poetry: Express emotion and rhythm through free verse, spoken word, and thematic poetry rooted in Afghan identity.
  • Storytelling: Learn the art of oral and written storytelling, drawing from cultural traditions and community narratives.

Eligibility

This section outlines the key criteria to ensure that selected participants are passionate young Afghan women committed to storytelling, advocacy, and active engagement in the program’s workshops and activities
