APT Hosts “Five Years, Five Voices, Five Futures” Event in Toronto

Afghans for Progressive Thinking (APT) hosted its “Five Years, Five Voices, Five Futures” event at the Ontario, bringing together Afghan youth, women, newcomers, community members, and supporters for a day of reflection, dialogue, and connection.

The event marked five years since the political changes in Afghanistan and provided a space to reflect on the experiences of Afghan communities, including the ongoing restrictions on education and the challenges facing women and girls. Participants discussed youth advocacy, education, resilience, civic engagement, and the role of the international community.

A panel discussion, “Breaking the Silence,” brought together different perspectives on the experiences of Afghan women and youth and explored ways to strengthen support, accountability, and opportunities for education and leadership. The event also featured artwork by Afghan girls, offering a powerful form of expression around their experiences, resilience, and hopes for the future.

The event concluded with networking and discussions on strengthening connections among Afghan youth and communities in Canada. APT thanks all participants, speakers, volunteers, and colleagues who joined us and contributed to making the event possible.
